King Ponce (2007)

In 2007, the short film I wrote, ‘King Ponce’, was a UKFC Digital Short. It screened at Cannes in the Short Film Corner. It was also nominated for the Yorkshire award at Leeds International Film Fest.

‘King Ponce’ is a film about teenage masculinity and group acceptance. Robbo has a passion for ballroom dancing but, being the new kid at school, he doesn’t want anyone to find out, especially not Gaz and his gang, with whom he’s beginning to gain a coveted acceptance. Does Robbo have the confidence to stand up to the potential social consequences, or will he forever be labeled a ‘ponce’?
